Review seven options for Hill Street Dog Park — six community-proposed, plus a no-change baseline — and select up to three you would support. The results will help identify the three most-supported alternatives to bring to the City.

The park today

The small-dog area runs from the west double gate to the fence beside the gazebo — about a third of the off-leash area, with the main area taking the other two-thirds. Every option below is a change to that.

About these drawings

These are concept diagrams, not surveyed or construction-ready plans. They use the same reference outline to help compare proposals. Current fence placement and area measurements remain unconfirmed, and proposed boundaries are approximate. All options would need City review for feasibility, access, and safety. Percentages below are an approximate share in each concept drawing, not a surveyed measurement.

Option A

Shrink it where it is

The dividing fence is rebuilt further west, with a gate through it. The small-dog area keeps its position and its shade, and the main area takes the rest.

Option B

The path becomes the fence line

The fence follows the existing path from the west gate east to the fence line where it stands today. The south half of the current fence comes out, so the small-dog area becomes the strip along the tree line and the open south strip goes back to the main park. The west gate is rebuilt as a triple out–in–out, serving as the small-dog area’s own way in and out, and a gate in the kept section opens into the main area.

Option C

Move it to the east end

The current fence comes out and the panels are reused across the east end, beside the water and the children’s park. The main area becomes one uninterrupted run, end to end.

Option D

Gates only, no fence change

Nothing moves. Two sets of double gates go in along the south fence, one for each area, with no crossing between them.

Option E

Change the rule, not the fence

Nothing is built. The two sides are redefined by what a dog needs rather than its size — a calm side for older, anxious or recovering dogs of any size, and an active side.

Option F

A wide gate anyone can open

Nothing is rebuilt and nothing moves. The locked gate in the dividing fence is replaced with an extra-wide gate that any visitor can open, so when no small dogs are using the small-dog area the two sides become one open run. A sign at the gate asks people to close it again when small dogs are using that side.

Option G

Do nothing — keep it as it is

Nothing is built, moved, or changed. The fence, gates, and posted rules stay exactly as they are today. This option exists so every proposed change can be measured against not acting at all.

How this poll works

This is an informal, community-organized poll to compare the listed proposals. It is not a City referendum or a representative sample of every park user. The City remains responsible for assessing and approving any changes.

We are still collecting park-use observations and petition signatures. These remain important alongside the voting results.

You may select up to three options. Your selections are not ranked; each selected option receives one count of support, and the reported shares are based on the number of ballots cast, not the number of votes — since one ballot can support more than one option, shares can add up to more than 100%.

Each option is drawn on the City’s reference drawing of the park and measured off it, and the shares are given on the same one-third / two-thirds basis the coalition uses for the area as it stands today. That drawing labels its own internal fence line and acre split as unconfirmed, and Option B’s boundary follows the path, which the drawing does not show — it is placed from the line the submitter drew between two gates. Treat the figures as proportions measured off a drawing rather than surveyed measurements; what they settle firmly is the order and the gaps between the options.
